I love leftovers. I love my freezer. But some of my family, do not so much. I love to cook, freeze some, and eat it later. And there’s members of my family, I won’t give names, that like to tease me, especially when we’re eating together, about what might’ve been in my freezer and for how long it may have been there.
But LEFTOVERS ARE BIBLICAL. John 6:12 says, “And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.”
There is an art to leftovers in the freezer. Nothing in there will last forever. Some things last longer than others and it depends, also, on how it’s wrapped. Bread and cookies are some things that last for a long time. It’s nice to have them to pull out at a moment’s notice.
Jesus has a bread that lasts forever. And it’s also available at a moment’s notice.
He goes on to explain His bread in this chapter of John. And He clarifies this in verse 35.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”
This bread is not frozen. It’s always fresh and warm! And it’s so good! It’s always there, ready for all of us.
Jesus does so much to feed us in so many ways. He did then and He does now! He may have had the disciples gather the leftovers for later, but His bread is never leftover! I don’t think I would have liked living in Biblical times having to cook each meal of the day. And sometimes this makes me wonder what Jesus might have done if there had been freezers back then!
