Our America is filled with many natural beautiful places. From the fields of flowers and corn of Wisconsin to the Great Lakes of eight states to the mountainous cliffs along the shores of Oregon we can see many amazing God made wonders. Psalm 89:11 says, “The heavens are yours, the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.”
America, our beautiful America! We should praise and thank our God for the beauty and everything He has given us! A famous song we sing, “America the Beautiful,” talks of just this, spacious skies, amber waves of grain, purple mountains majesties, and fruited plains. The words of this song were written in 1892 by a female college professor as she was looking across the majestic beauty from the top of Pike’s Peak after she and her friends had traveled to the top by a prairie wagon and then mules. A couple years later the verses of this hymn appeared in “The Congregationalist” on July 4, 1895. Interestingly, this magazine is still around. And what started as a hymn is what we sing now on patriotic holidays.
Job 12:7-10 says, “But ask the beasts and they will teach you, the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this?” Romans 1:20 states, “For His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” And Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”
So the animals tell us of God, the world tells us of God, and the heavens also tell us of God! If you don’t see God’s glory in front of you, look out the window and then look further at His world, our world, our America. “America! America! God shed His grace on thee.”
