Thank You, God, for my cup!

Paul writes in Galatians 6:5, “For each will have to bear his own load” (ESV). In Romans 14:12, he said, “So then each of us will give an account of himself to God” (ESV). Even Jesus Himself explained in John 18:11 that He had to “drink the cup” His Father had given Him. I wish I’d understood this while raising my kids; it would’ve helped to give me the right words for them and lessened my frustrations when I couldn’t change the drink in their cup, so to speak. I didn‘t have magic words then, nor do I have them now, but I can tell you that Jesus had the magic words. The cup God gives each of us to bear is His perfect will and plan, and the way we react to our cup will bless us or come back to haunt us, as well as our children and theirs (Exodus 10:1-2). All that I and any parent, friend, or loved one can do is to pray for people, guide them to know God’s Word, and cry, rejoice, support, or just hug, feeling reassured, that they are bearing the cup God gave them and that it should be done with honor, praise, and thanksgiving to our God, the way our Jesus did! Thank You, God, for my cup!
