Wait for it, Wait for it, Action!

Did something good or exciting ever come about for you that you hadn’t planned on? Maybe it was a new job, a trip, a new friend, or your spouse? I never planned on writing blogs or books. I never planned on being any kind of a writer really. Let me tell you why I write. I always did enjoy writing even as a child. I wrote poetry and songs while I was growing up and I always made A’s on any kind of written reports in school. I even won a few little awards on compositions I wrote. Now I write because I have something to say, something to share.

I find myself with three books published and one in the design phase being published. The first book I wrote that started all this was written for two reasons. The first was that my Grandmother always told me growing up I would have to write our story meaning the story of my mom’s murder when I was a child. I never knew what form this story would be in, whether it would be a book or a short story. All I knew was she wanted me to write it.

The second, and most important, reason was that at a specific time I felt God telling me to share my story but not just about Mama. And I’m a firm believer that you don’t go against God’s wishes! So write I did. I’m telling you this for you to understand that when God, the Holy Spirit, gives you that notion, that nudge as I like to call it, you act. It might look like a change in your plans, a kink in your day’s activities, or just a thought to do something you wouldn’t have thought to do or would have never planned on. But just do it! So I wrote that book about Mama and included its effects on my life, and God’s presence and provision through all of it.

Since my first book, God has now blessed me with thoughts in my mind and feelings in my heart to share for children so that’s what I’m doing. I love to write, draw, and paint among so many other activities and God has given me a wonderful and encouraging way to do this! It’s through “Encouraging Scripture Books,” a series of children’s books that encourage the learning of Scripture.

The first is The Rowdy Sisters. In this book, May is demonstrating the verse Romans 15:4 to her sisters without even knowing it. All she wants to do is her favorite pastime of reading and all her little sisters want to do is annoy her. Being the smart girl May is, she figures a way. She shares, which is what we should do, especially with our children.

Romans 15:4 says, “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” So where is your hope? What gives you encouragement? Is it when your plans go the way you want? I think back to so many times when I made sure the plans I had made for my husband and kids went the way I wanted even to the point that sometimes the fun wasn’t there. I wish I had understood that nudge, that notion to do differently, then. God tells us in His Scripture to make our plans but ultimately the path will be His, Proverbs 16:9. Whatever, wherever, God plans, go with it and see where it leads. Then share what He did for you.

The next two books in my series are already started. Thank You, God!

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21 NIV).
